Touching Lives with Our Music

Nashville, TN (November 25, 2024) The radio single, "Somebody's Storm," is so much more than just another song for FMG artists, Fields of Grace, who live in Candler, NC, where Helene has displaced so many families and businesses. We talked with members of the group who have been busy working at ground zero to try and make a difference in their community and beyond. They felt so strongly that this song needed to be heard that they stopped the promotion of their current radio single to release this one!

Leslie SmithFOG vocalist, said, "Somebody’s Storm is a beautiful song. The message of 'being a lighthouse' to someone is a great one. I’ve always thought it’s important to be honest in our testimonies (as the spirit leads), as you never know how your story may touch someone. When I chose the song, I had no idea we’d face a storm as big as Helene ourselves. Our group lives in the center of where most of the flooding occurred, and although our homes weren’t damaged, we’re still without potable water almost two months later. We’ve been able to witness many lighthouses during this time of tragedy. We hope that you have someone in your life that’s been a lighthouse to you."

Group member, Neely Bennett added, “ Somebody’s storm is a reminder to show Christ to those around you because you never know when your kindness and love could change someone’s life. It reminds the church to stand strong and be a lighthouse in this world. Hurricane Helene has brought so much loss but we have seen god's people step up and be lighthouses in their communities to spread the love of Jesus Christ as he called us to do! I am so thankful God sent this song our way, and I hope it is a blessing to those who hear it.”

Songwriters, Kristi Fitzwater and Matthew Lawson, gave us the story behind the writing of the song; “Somebody’s Storm” was originally inspired by a graphic of a lighthouse that had been circling on social media with the following words, “Don’t forget that maybe you are the lighthouse in someone’s storm”. We initially wrote this song to speak to the hardships and struggles people face in this life, those metaphorical storms. But what we could never have known was that one day Fields of Grace would record this song and send it out to radio following the devastation of the recent hurricanes. The storms were literal storms for so many people, including my sister Kim, whose mobile home was damaged by both hurricanes Helene and Milton. Whether it’s a literal storm or a personal struggle, there are people around us who could use some compassion and support. Our hope is that this song encourages us all to be more aware of what others may be going through and to find ways to extend the love of Jesus in their moments of need. "

Les Butler, Producer and FMG Label owner, states, "This is a perfect song for these horrific times. And, Fields of Grace was the perfect group to send it to the world. They've literally been able to be a lighthouse in their community that was so tragically hit by these literal storms."
